Welcome

Our Beginnings. The Reverend Father Christopher G. Phillips established the Atonement Academy in 1994 as the parish school for Our Lady of the Atonement Catholic Church.  With only 66 students,  the Academy did not start with a library until a few years later.  A parishioner volunteered to start the library in a classroom of the original school building, and with that generous offer,  Mrs. Orianna Miller became our first librarian. The library collection consisted of only three donated boxes that filled one bookcase.  Mrs. Miller started a campaign for more books,  requesting the students bring in pennies to raise funds for the collection.  Thus the school library’s young collection began to grow due to the generous donations of the parish families.

Our Development. The parish and school continued to grow, with the Academy eventually adding grades through middle school.  The school needed to be expanded, and Bishop Bernard Popp and the Superintendent of Catholic Schools were present for the groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion on August 15th, 2003.  The extension houses the new library at the heart of the campus.   In spring of 2006, Archbishop Gomez blessed the new building housing o ur current library.  Our collection continues to grow along with the students.  With the continued growth, the library anticipates expanding to the second level when the new Upper School building construction is complete. Librarian Literacy Award

This is a quarterly award program aimed at encouraging LS and MS students to read more. As our students take the initiative to read , we hope the child begins to develop a love of reading.  This is a new program but we feel students will respond positively.

How does it work?

Eligibility: All LS and MS students   Quarterly Librarian Literacy Award.  At the end of each quarter one Lower School student and one Middle School student will receive a $10 Barnes and Noble gift card towards the purchase of future book. The gift card is given to the student who has achieved the most AR points for the quarter among all LS and MS. The student(s) may also volunteer to write a quick summary about one of the books read during that particular quarter. The summary will be posted on our library page to encourage other students to read those books. End of the School Year Drawing.   At the end of the 4th quarter there will be a drawing for a gift aimed at encouraging reading.
